I was bitten by the wine and travel bug on my first trip to California wine country in 1999. Since then I’ve travelled to vineyards around the United States, Canada, and Europe. I tired of my job in IT, and I began working on a PhD in Political Science at the University of Illinois in 2015. I do my research on the politics of creating wine appellations in new European Union member states. In 2016 I earned the WSET Level 2 certification in wine and spirits, and I’m currently studying for the Level 3 certification. I enjoy all music from Beethoven to Gothic Rock, eating great food whether it’s from a street cantina or a fine restaurant, and of course travel and wine. I look forward to sharing my love and knowledge of wine and wine regions with you.
Hi, I'm Kat. Before starting Bacchus, I spent my career working in IT in networking and as a certified project manager. I also helped found a small consulting firm in Vegas. I loved building a business and solving problems, but after over 10 years, I started to burn out. I realized that I was happiest when I was travelling, teaching or learning. Bacchus lets me combine all three of those things with my love for wine! We came up with the idea for Bacchus when we realized that we were doing a lot of travel planning for friends who wanted their vacations to work like ours did. I really loved putting my skills, knowledge and contacts to use helping people have amazing experiences engaging with winemakers and the winemaking process. Because all that doesn't keep me busy enough, I'm currently working on a PhD in 19th century French colonial history. My dissertation will look at the effects of the Phylloxera epidemic on French culture and how it contributed to French colonialism in North Africa. I achieved my Wine and Spirits Education Trust Level 2 certification in December of 2016 and am working towards earning my Level 3 this summer. I look forward to meeting all of you on one of our trips!
My name is Avery Stuart and I'm one of the knowledgeable wine and spirits guides with Bacchus. I spearhead our exciting Scotch tours in bonnie Scotland where every distillery has a story. Scotland has always been dear to me, my ancestor was Robert the 2nd of Scotland, the lords of Lorn and Innermeath and the Barony of Appin. One of my ancestors was sold into indentured servitude after two unsuccessful attempts at defeating Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell and bringing back the Monarchy and his majesty Charles the 2nd. Scotch not only makes me feel closer to my ancestors and heritage but every glass holds it's own unique histories and stories which I look foreword to helping you find. Besides Scotch and wine I am also a musician and an artist. I did historical carriage tours in Philadelphia. I look foreword to guiding you all through Scottish history in the most delicious way, through it's Aqua Vita.
